What You Need To Know About WordCamp Dallas
I and a couple hundred other WordPress and blogging enthusiasts are gathering outside of Dallas, Texas, for a foot stomping and roaring great time this Saturday and Sunday. You better be there.
These are some things you will need to know about WordCamp Dallas.
1. Register Now or Never
Registration is required. There will be no registration taken at the door. If you aren’t registered, you will not get in.
The $20.00 fee to attend the weekend workshop covers your two day entrance, a t-shirt (if you registered early enough), meals, and all access in and out to the event and accompanying special events. T-shirts and meals were all pre-ordered, so you have to register by Friday in order to get in the door for the weekend’s event.
2. Think wordcampdallas2008.
The tag for the weekend event is wordcampdallas2008.
If you are live blogging, tag your blog post accordingly. If you are uploading images to Flickr, tag them with wordcampdallas2008. Whatever social media you are using, tag it with wordcampdallas2008 so we can all track the event’s activities and events.
If you are blogging about the event, live or otherwise, please link to the speaker’s specific page on the WordCamp Dallas schedule so all trackbacks will get tracked.
3. Check the FAQ.
The WordCamp Dallas FAQ has location information, driving directions, and information to help you get from the airport, rent a car, and all the information you need to enjoy the full weekend at WordCamp Dallas in Frisco, Texas.
The FAQ even has a listing of activities, restaurants, and things of note in the area for you to explore.
4. Read up on the Speakers.
Check the list of the many speakers appearing over the weekend and check out their blogs and work. Google them. Read about what they do and how they do it.
Put together questions you want asked and answered about how they blog, why they blog, and how they can help you blog better. Be ready to ask the good questions, the things you really want to know. It doesn’t matter if you ask them when they are speaking or before or after their speech. They are there to help you blog and understand how WordPress works, so be prepared to get your questions answered now.
5. Be ready for more than you bargained for.
There are a whole lot of special events and activities beyond those mentioned in the events schedule. There will be video interviews, podcasting, possibly live video and podcasting streaming, tons of goodies, parties, celebrities, and a first hand look at a lot of WordPress and related goodies.
Bring your body, awake and ready. Bring a camera, paper, pens, pencils, water bottle, laptop, PDA, whatever you need to get you through the blogging day and be prepared to shake a lot of hands, get hugged, give hugs, ask a lot of questions, get a lot of answers, and have a fantastic two days surrounded by everything blogging and WordPress!
6. Bring a Thank You.
Do bring a thank you for Charles Stricklin and John Pozadzides of Layered Technologies for putting this amazing weekend together, along with the many WordCamp Dallas Sponsors which made it possible to hold this huge event for such a small fee.
A lot of volunteer effort went into this event, and many will be named, but even more will go unnamed, so thank everyone you see working on the event, from the person checking you in at the door to the person running the WIFI and serving your food. They all have given up their time to be there to make this event the best it can be for everyone. Spread your thanks everywhere.
